This is one hard to dodge questionnaire. I mean, Disney, right? It’s probably impossible to find anyone in and around my age group who hasn’t had some Disney film play an important role in their childhood. Now that the fine ladies of The Travelling Geek Show wrote an open invitation, I obviously need to stop whatever I was doing and start answering questions on the internet. Here we go: (I’ll also not leave out questions 15–18 because they seem interesting)
Smilingldsgirl’s Epic Disney Tag
1. A scene in any Disney movie you wish you could experience
For obvious reasons, I wouldn’t mind placing my arrows like Merida at her archery tournament. Hanging out with Baloo and Bagheera would be neat as well.
2. An unforgettable experience you’ve had at the parks
I never went to any of the parks. :<
3. What non-Disney song reminds you or brings back memories of Disney and or the parks?
Obviously, films like An American Tail are very much patterned after the Disney animated feature mold, so they remind me of Disney. ‘There are noooo cats in America, and the streets are paved with cheese…’
4. When was the first time you went to a Disney park?
See Question No. 2
5. If you could choose any of the characters to be your best friend who would you choose?
Belle, because she’s smart and a bookworm.
All of the Aristocats cats because cats, duh.
6. Who is your favorite Disney princess?
Ariel because she’s consumed with longing for a (supposedly) fantasy world.
Belle because she’s smart and a bookworm.
Mulan because she’s got guts galore and just can’t be bothered with etiquette.
7. Name a scene/moment in any Disney movie that never fails to make you cry?
Stitch re-enacting the scene in his Ugly Duckling book.
8. What is your favorite Disney movie?
101 Dalmatians, Sword in the Stone, Robin Hood, The Rescuers, The Little Mermaid, Lilo and Stitch
9. Overrated Disney?
Unpopular Opinion Warning: Most Pixar films. Some I find okay, but most of them don’t even come close in charm and animation quality to the Disney knockoffs.
10. Underrated Disney?
Atlantis because of Mike Mignola meets Disney. MIKE MIGNOLA MEETS DISNEY! WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU, PEOPLE?
11. Favorite Disney song?
Hoom, this is difficult. I like them usually in the context of the film’s storytelling, but special mentions go out to ‘Ev’rybody wants to be a cat’ (because it’s The Truth) and ‘Be prepared’ (because I can’t help chuckling at how its super heavy Leni Riefenstahl tribute [not the film’s only one] went right past our german Nazi Outrage Police when Rammstein’s cover of Stripped bore their wrath in full, 4 years later.)
12. Least Favorite Disney?
Pinocchio because for whatever reason, it just doesn’t do much for me.
13. Most Memorable Disney villain?
Medusa! I love the story that Milt Kahl wanted to one-up Marc Davis’ Cruella De Vil – both drew these characters before they retired, to leave the stage with a big, all stops pulled kaboom. Improving upon Cruella is no simple task, but Milt’s Medusa went above and beyond. And he made it look easy. She’s magnificent.
Scar being voiced by Jeremy Irons must of course be mentioned, because I’d listen to Jeremy Irons reading the phone book.
14. Favorite classic Disney/ favorite modern Disney?
Fave classic: 101 Dalmatians
Fave modern (2d): Lilo and Stitch
Fave modern (3d): Tangled
15. Favorite Disney score?
I’m really bad at remembering whole scores, so I’ll have to pass that one.
16. Favorite live action
20000 Miles under the Sea!
17. Didn’t like as kid, like now
Who Framed Roger Rabbit because it’s freaking hilarious.
18. Favorite Studio Ghibli
Kurenai no Buta! (Porco Rosso)
